City Buses

During my town trip yesterday, I learned two things:

  1. Do not take it for granted that all bus drivers are always friendly and helpful. For years, no decades, we have been extolling the virtues of the friendly Vancouver bus drivers to all our visitors. Yesterday, exiting the Seabus Station in Vancouver, I came across not one, but two drivers (both 98-B-Line leaving at Waterfront Station) who did not let me enter because they had already closed the door, even though they had not started to drive off yet.
  2. Don’t run for the bus. (As I learned later, the 98-B-Line leaves every 10 minutes.) Upon returning home along Lonsdale in North Vancouver, I saw a bus approaching from Upper Lonsdale, ran to the next stop and saw the bus passing, flashing a sign “not in service – sorry”. I resigned myself to a day of bus mishaps and continued to walk along Lonsdale, when I saw another bus coming, and again, ran for the next stop. That bus too, had the sign “not in service – sorry”. Probably a reminder to me, that what shall not be, will not be – just relax and go on your way.
