Skipping to October

September was still summer, savouring the last of the great sunny weather we had, kayaking, picking the last blackberries and visitors enjoying Bowen when the kids have returned to school.

All of a sudden, it is October and summer is over. Felix, our cat who has shown us a cold shoulder for the last while, has decided to return and spends more time in his favourite chair, cleaning himself and purring. Winter cannot be far away!

Last weekend, the Bowen Heritage Preservation Association organized "Apple Fest 2006". It was a great little event, displaying all sorts of apples, grown right here on Bowen, apple bobbing, musical chairs (blocks of wood), a cider press, caramel apples and barbequed apple/chicken sausages. The two GVRD tents housed all that, including the judges of the apple pie contest, where my German "Apfelkuchen" came in second (not THAT hard, with all of five entries). Despite the rain, it was a great harvest event, enjoyed by young and old.
