Printer-friendly versionIt is officially Spring now. Blossoms on the plum tree are about to burst open and I finally managed to start dealing with the garden. Marlis was here and she encouraged and helped me with my chores. We dug out the tulips that came up amidst the winter rye. The rye grass has to be turned under the soil to enrich it with nutrients and the tulips are now better off in their individual big pots on the banister of the deck. I tried out my new “spike” shoes (flat things with long nails sticking out the bottom), walking back and forth on the grass to areate it. Next we need to put down some grass seed and more soil to revive the lawn.

Today, I savoured the last day before going back to work. I thought I would go to the beach when the weather looked really sunny and promising this morning. But I got involved in more soil work and preparing pots, took a walk to Anne Jamieson’s on Collins Lane to pick up fresh eggs (her chickens are the best – they greet me when I come).
