Torino versus Whistler

In the Pique News Magazine from Whistler I found this article: Scenes from the Games - Observations and Lessons for Whistler for the 2006 Winter Olympics.'

Transportation was an interesting aspect, with staggering numbers of spectators transported to the events. Rail travel was part of the transportation during the winter olympics in Torino. Will the rails to Whistler be opened and used for 2010? It is a shame that only freight trains get to travel this spectacular route.

I love train travel. The E & N Railroad  (Esquimalt and Nanaimo) on Vancouver Island is another old Canadian railroad. A number of years ago we were planning to take the train from Nanaimo to Victoria at Christmas Eve. We did see the old train station, lovingly kept up by volunteers, but no train - the tracks were snowed under. Instead, we were taken to Victoria by bus.
