The Turnbulls

If asked what I like most about running a B&B I always say "meeting people". Today we met Heather, whose parents, Ian and Rosemary Turnbull, many years ago lived with their three young children on Bowen Island. The results of Ian's artistic building skills, a driftwood gate and a tall wooden spiral, can still be seen on the property in Deep Bay. The Turnbulls moved to the Findhorn Community in Scotland, where Ian has built a Nature Sanctuary (Frame 5 on a BBC feature of favourite buildings, between a photo of the Palace of Westminster and the Seattle Space Needle). We always remember the Turnbulls when we tell the story about how our then 5 year old son Boris, upon returning from Kindergarten, didn't find anybody at home at his family daycare. He walked over to Ian and said "I have nobody to look after me; can you take care of me?" They did take care of him for the afternoon and contacted us soon after we returned home, so we did not have to worry. Boris had instinctively made a good and safe choice, going to a friendly family that he knew.
